The crew of the lifeboat were paged to attend a yacht aground at 1735 on the evening of Friday 17th June 2005. On arrival at the scene, they saw a 40 foot fin-keeled yacht, Beaucette, aground and sitting perfectly upright in the sands.
Some of the crew of Beaucette were transfered to another vessel to return to Penarth. The remainder of the crew were forced to wait for the tide to rise, and eventually floated free at 0230 on the Saturday morning. The lifeboat were in attendance to ensure the yacht refloated safely, and returned to the slipway at 0350.
This unusual grounding attracted a lot of attention from the local and national press, and photographs taken by Crewman Clive Scott-Green appeared in The Sun and The Mirror. No one can remember a grounded yacht sitting so upright.
